Daisies

Daisy flowers, such as asters and sunflowers, are botanically known as Asteraceae because each head is made up of lots of tiny, fertile flowers.

These are clustered in the centre and are surrounded by a ring of sterile flowers modified to form petals.

Globally, there are more than 25,000 species that are classed as composites, ranging from lettuces and lawn daisies to dandelions and thistles.
